So you know, I really didn't feel much hype or anything for my 18th, and I was still so cynical about it the whole time for the past few days. I've kept worrying about whether or not Coco would remember my birthday (of course he would what am I talking about) and I just had a million and one expectations and I was thinking of the worst possible outcomes yada yada yada. BUT HONESTLY, I deserve to go bang my head against the wall. I mean, I have the bestest friends in the world, so what was I so worried about... right?

SO TODAY:

The plan was to meet Linette in the evening for dinner and a movie and it would be a quiet but significant affair, hello(?) milestone in our friendship here. BTW, we have NEVER gone for a movie, just two of us before. It's insane, seeing we've known each other for like *&^#!#@$%^&*() years. At 6pm, I woke up thinking "SHIT, I'M LATE", and so I rushed into the shower but, LO AND BEHOLD, our dear linette was still sleeping! (hahaha, champion). TBH, when she didn't reply my messages after half an hour I was thinking whether or not it was deliberate. Like, what if she was busy preparing some epic birthday party for me, right? (OH COME ON, WE ALL HAVE EXPECTATIONS.) so ya la! I was snickering to myself in my head like, "WAH, something must be brewing." *does finger-tapping-against-each-other action* But no, that was not to be, she called back after a couple of missed calls and messages with her usual I-just-woke-up-voice and so our plans changed to meeting for dinner. FROM 6 TO 8pm. I think we can win an award for being late. I don't know where else you'd find a best friend who is exactly horrible when it comes to meeting for appointments like that.

(so to cut a long story short, we finally met at 8pm and went down to Plaza Sing for dinner/daiso shopping where we had a very nostalgic swensen's dinner and bought nifty brown paper post-its and white tees from daiso.)

AT ABOUT 10 PLUS,

we finally made our way back.

Mind you, throughout the whole of dinner and stuff I kept thinking in my head,

"what could this girl possibly be up to?!"

and, I knew something was up when she kept on texting and she wanted to take the bus back and not the train even though it was so late already.

AND, she also wanted to drop at the bus stop opposite ICC instead of the usual one.

(I just realised how much I analyzed her every move,

I can be the next Nancy Drew or something.)

AT HOME:

When we got back Linette had this damn sneaky expression on her face the whole time but I was sort of put off my guard already even though I kinda expected something to happen. When I opened my front door I thought someone would pop out from behind or something or like maybe somebody was hiding in my toilet/closet but okay my heart at that moment was beating very fast (hahaha) but of course, I am the great pretender and I had a pretty good CBF attitude going on there. (At this point in time it was almost 11pm.) So we were just sitting around in my room that feels like an oven because its so incredibly hot (35 degrees today like wth how do Isurvive its puzzles me) and were jamming as usual, and yes, I was still waiting for something to happen and she still had this half-smile on her face (WHICH I BET SHE TOTALLY DIDN'T NOTICE HAHA) and yes, the clock was ticking...

linette: EH DEB! it's 11:11 make a wish!

debs: huh!? okok! alamak omg stress I dunno what wish to make!!!

debs: (please let cohen come and wish me happy birthday)

debs: OKAY DONE!

linette: your wish is outside!!

debs: (how in the world did she know what I wished for) OMG HOW YOU KNOW WHAT I WISHED FOR.

linette: you go and see la

At this moment I honestly thought Linette had some sort of psychic powers or like maybe our BFF telepathic powers were in full swing and she could tap into my mental state and figure out what I was thinking, like, WTF?! (haha okay sorry for explicit language it was that incredulous)

*scampers outside*

THERE I SEE COHEN TAN OUTSIDE MY GATE

(I was damn freaking excited at this point of time because how often does a wish come true, and immediately for that matter!)

It was insanely epic and I thought my heart was going to fly out my mouth but yes, CALM AND COMPOSED I AM. So there was the usual "omg what are you doing here" "hahaha" *inserts slightly hysterical laughter and exchanging of hugs and smiles* but this was shortly followed by an awkward turtle moment where we just sat down and stoned for a while cos technically it wasn't 12AM yet so technically it wasn't exactly my birthday yet and technically we had about 45 minutes to spare.

Those two silly goobers then proceeded to say:

"We are supposed to be playing boardgames now,"

"You're not 18 yet, so technically we can still suan you till then" (This was mostly Coco, Linette understands the girl code, hahahahahaha)

so yes, while waiting for me to turn legal, we played UNO STACKO (zomg my favourite game ever I am damn good at it I pretended to lose to make them feel good only) and we drank, a bit of whatever Bacardi+Lemonade I had in my fridge. (HAHA, our trio do not make good drinking buddies, we will not drink together again I promise)

and to cut a long story short the clock finally struck 12

just some background info:

A couple of days ago Cohen talked to me on msn and asked me whether he should get a nano or a shuffle, he then proceeded to ask me what colour I thought he should get. I thought something was fishy because he ALREADY had an iPod and an iPhone for that matter and a part of me secretly thought he was planning to buy one for me so he was asking what colour I preferred on the pretense that it was for him. (I KNOW I AM SO ANALYTICAL)

I talked to Linette about it also and DAMN, these two are damn bloody good actors and actresses man they win Oscars in my heart.

They were soooooooooooooooooooo good acting, I was fooled. 90% of whatever hope I had with regards to me getting a Nano for my birthday was dispelled from my mind.

so they each took out an item, and Linette's one was a very nicely packaged gift which I kinda knew it to be a Topshop giftcard but Cohen's one was this little wrapped up rectangular object which I took GREAT interest into knowing what it was.

(I still had hopes of receiving a Nano, but after seeing what a small box it was I wasn't sure, I kept shaking the box, and when they asked me what I thought it was I didn't dare say "Nano" because like SERIOUSLY, damn BHB right!)

BUT...

OH-HAI-YO, IPOD NANO AND TOPSHOP GIFTCARD

These two actually got me a freaking iPod Nano+topshop giftcard

(okay you can only guess how much they spend right)

I AM SO TOUCHED OKAY.

They knew I didn't have a music player even though both my siblings had one and so they decided to get me one, and this was even before they saw my wishlist.

*EVERYBODY SAY AWWWWW IN UNISON NOW*

of course, I would now say they shouldn't have gone to the expense and spend so much but damn, they have made me feel like I AM WORTH EVERY CENT. I was so happy/excited/a bit blank but,

OMG, THEY GOT ME A NANO!??!?!
